Today,is also the day Nigerian clocks 61.Since it gained it's independence in October 1st 1960.Happy independence day Nigeria.

So yeah,I would be talking briefly about how the name nigeria was gotten and would also be talking about October 1st 1960.

Nigeria was discovered during the 1st century to be precise in the year 1914 after the amalgamation Northern and Southern to form Nigeria.Nigeria was named and discovered by a British journalist flora Shaw who got married to Fredrick Lord Lugarrd (a British administrator who was the governor-general)The name nigeria was gotten from the River Niger and "Area" which means its environment to get the word "Nigeria" .So if you are a Nigerian then it means you are from the River Niger Area(Nigeria).

Nigeria gained her Independence from the british colony on October 1st 1960.On this fateful day,the british Union jack was lowered and replaced by the Green-white-green flag which was designed by Taiwo Akikunmi. Many popped champagne and we're happy with the freedom from the colonial masters. And with the independence, a new constitution, establishing a federal system with an elected prime minister and a ceremonial head of state was established. From then, Nigerians took over the reigns of leadership from foreigners.

Recognising the country’s particular multi-ethnic configuration or diversity, the British government had established for Nigeria a federal structure of government, with three regions.

Each of the three regions had its own constitution and a good measure of autonomy while there was a fairly weak Federal Government at the centre. The three regions were the Eastern Region, Northern Region and Western Region. Since October 1, 1960, the date has been a memorable one for Nigerians.

Thanks for reading me.
